LABOR BOARD FINDS MERIT TO LOCAL 97 ALLEGATION THAT NATIONAL GRID VIOLATED MEMBERS’ WEINGARTEN RIGHTS; NATIONAL GRID REQUIRED TO POST NOTICE PROMISING NOT TO VIOLATE WEINGARTEN RIGHTS IN FUTURE
In April 2024, Local 97 filed an Unfair Labor Practice Charge with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) alleging that National Grid violated certain members’ Weingarten rights. Specifically, Local 97 alleged that National Grid violated federal law by (a) refusing to provide information about the general subject matter of the investigation, and (b) refusing to allow the members to meet and confer with their Local 97 representative before the interviews.
The Regional Director of the NLRB found merit to Local 97’s allegations and was prepared to issue Complaint against National Grid for violations of federal law. However, National Grid agreed to settle the allegations and, pursuant to the settlement agreement, it was required to post the below Notice promising not to violate employees’ Weingarten rights in the future:
Please remember that you are entitled to have a Local 97 representative present during any meeting with management that may result in discipline. You are also entitled to know the general subject matter of the investigation and confer with your Local 97 representative before the meeting or interview begins. Please report any Weingarten violations to Local 97.
