Western Division: Don't be Distracted on the Job

Thursday, January 18, 2018

Happy New Year! With the holidays behind us its time for us to look forward to the new year. This is a great time to reset and take a good look at ourselves and think about how we can improve on last year. We all know family comes first and almost everyone can understand that concept. At Local 97 we are all family and we need to take care of our Brothers and Sisters. We need to look out for them on and off the job.

Distractions are a major cause of accidents. We need to recognize when we are or one of our coworkers is distracted and stop and get reset. Don't be afraid to stop a coworker and question them if you think they are doing something wrong. You would be sorry if someone got hurt and you said nothing.

Perceived pressure is what we put on ourselves to get the job done or get the power restored. We need to slow down make sure that we are doing the job safely and correctly. The customer and the company can wait a few more minutes for the work to be done.

We are all responsible for our safety and the safety of our Brothers and Sisters. -Jim Murty, IBEW Local 97, Assistant Business Manager - West
